Zoë queried: 'So what do you
think ?'
-
The pawns man replied: 'I
don't know. It looks awful expensive; I don't usually deal with such high
value items; too risky. An expensive item like that is hard to unload.'
-
Zoë responded: 'Look, I have
all the authentic documentation for the medallion, including photos.
-
It used to be my mom's. I
want to unload it because it's ugly. A friend told me you deal with high-end
items occasionally.' Zoë knew it was a stolen medallion, altered to look the
same as her moms. Zoë was the one who altered it.
-
The pawns man considered,
Zoë didn't look like a thief, and didn't talk like a thief. She didn't seem
desperate. 'I'll have to check out the documentation. If it's legit I'll phone
you on Monday.'
-
Monday arrived for Zoë with
a phone call from the pawns-man. “Alright, I’ll buy, but you’ll have to wait
for the thing to sell before I can pay.” The pawns-man continued on. “You say
that pendant is worth two million, but that’s not what I can probably get for
it. I can probably get about a million for it, since it looks legit. I’ll give
you $450 grand for it to get rid of it fast. I’m taking a bit of a risk here.”
-
Zoë thought about it for a
moment after holding her breath so that she didn’t swear. She was about to
call the pawns-man a thief. She’d figured she’d be able to get two million for
the thing. Hesitantly she agreed to the pawns-man’s offer: “Okay, 450k it is.”
She would have to find another way to fund her organization.

-
“What the hell ?” the
pawns-man exclaimed. He’d been in a back store-room when suddenly he heard a
loud beeping noise. He turned around and walked back into the show-room. He
figured someone had walked into the show-room with a beeper, but the doorbell
should have rung. Everything was in it’s place, and nobody was in the
showroom.

Meanwhile Mike Wallace was
driving down the street pressing the button on Lizbeth’s keychain signaller.
He was hoping to be able to find the device by it’s beep. Mike drove on by the
pawns-shop, the beeper in the device wasn’t loud enough to be able to hear as
he drove past.
-
Mike continued to drive,
pressing the beeper button anytime he saw what appeared to be a place where
there could be some sort of street transaction going on.
